A paper presented recently at the ACM SIGCOMM 2021 conference states that a powerful solar storm could affect the internet/communication. Also, this storm can cause serious damage to submarine cables and communication satellites. Scientists estimate that the direct impact of extreme space weather events on Earth will be between 1.6% and 12% per decade.
